From FIU News:
The Spectrum Awards for Women annually recognizes outstanding women whose efforts have made significant contributions to the quality of life in South Florida. These leadership awards acknowledge the humanitarian principles of the American Red Cross: Humanity, Impartiality, Independence, Unity, Neutrality, and Voluntary Service.
Baum is an internationally acclaimed scientist on nutrition, metabolism, and HIV/AIDS.
Baum lead a study that investigated the relationship between HIV infection and micro-nutrients. Dr. Baum’s research was among the first to show that HIV leads to deficiencies in micronutrients and that long-term micro-nutrient supplementation can delay the onset of HIV, and improve overall quality of life.
Dr. Baum’s most recent studies are focused on HIV and hepatitis C disease progression in drug and alcohol abusing populations.
This is what life-changing impact in our community looks like.
