Greer chosen to join Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center Board of Directors

The Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Board of Directors has unanimously approved the nomination of Florence Greer, M.P.H., M.P.A. as a board member. On learning of her nomination, Greer said, “This is an honor and I hope to represent FIU Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work well.”

As the Public Health Practicum Coordinator at FIU Stempel College, Greer connects students with opportunities to apply knowledge gained from instructional programs while demonstrating their readiness for practice in public health upon completion of the practicum experience.

Greer graduated from Spelman College with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Science, and she holds a Master of Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University as well as a Master of Public Health from FIU Stempel College. Before joining the FIU Stempel College, Greer held positions with The Children’s Trust and the Miami-Dade County Health Department.

Miami-Dade AHEC’s mission is to improve access to quality health care services and provide innovative, preventative health education programs for the underserved in the Miami-Dade County community.

Since 1987, Miami-Dade AHEC’s community partnerships have resulted in the development of primary care clinics and outreach services, school health education, continuing education programs for practicing health professionals, and other community-based projects through which health professions students and faculty serve and advocate for the underserved. Miami-Dade AHEC has also broadened its efforts to provide health education to the general Miami-Dade County community on topics defined by the Florida State Department of Health as being critical health priorities including, but not limited to cardiovascular health, breast health, diabetes, obesity, nutrition and cancer.

The AHEC’s Board of Directors are champions for the underserved in the Miami-Dade County community. AHEC’s board brings together thought leadership and community advocates focused on its core mission, to improve access to quality, comprehensive health care and education for the underserved, uninsured, economically needy and other vulnerable individuals through academic-community partnerships.
