National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

FIU’s Stempel College Collaborates with Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, April 28, 2018 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. @ FIU University Police

Bring leftover prescription medications to our safe and anonymous disposal bin provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the MDPD at FIU’s University Police Department.

Drop-Off Location: Modesto Maidique Campus (MMC), 885 SW 109th Ave., PG5 Market Station, Miami, FL 33199. For the security of the community, an officer will watch over the bin, but with a no-questions-asked policy for the unwanted or expired Rx. *Not intended for illegal drugs.*

OPIOIDS/OPIATES DON’T DISCRIMINATEPeople of all ages and ethnicities—in both rural and urban environments—can fall victim to devastating addictions caused by heroin (illegal) and legal prescription pain relievers like oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, tramadol, morphine and fentanyl/carfentanil. Just because the legal drugs in this list come from a doctor doesn’t mean they’re safe!

CDC: Opioid overdoses kill almost 5 people every hour in the U.S. In 45 states, opioid overdoses rose 30 percent in one year, according to a March 2018 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
