Mario De La Rosa, professor and director of Center for Research on US Latino HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse (CRUSADA), has been selected as member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity.
“I believe that participating as a standing member of this roundtable will significantly enhance my ability to highlight the research and training accomplishments that come from the Center for Latino Health Research Opportunities (CLaRO) and CRUSADA, which are focused on eliminating health disparities in substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and violence affecting Latino populations in South Florida,” said De La Rosa.
Part of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, the goal of the Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity is to promote health equity and eliminate health disparities by Advancing the visibility and understanding of the inequities in health and health care among racial and ethnic populations; Amplifying research, policy, and community-centered programs; and Catalyzing the emergence of new leaders, partners and stakeholders.
De La Rosa will serve a three-year term beginning on July 29, 2019 with the option of serving a second three-year term.
“I hope that, during my tenure on this roundtable, I will be able to lobby for the development of a research agenda that will lead to significant policy developments to address the pressing problems of substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, and other health conditions that negatively affect Latino populations in South Florida and elsewhere in the United States,” De La Rosa continued.
