FIU’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work (Stempel College) School of Public Health has received seven additional years of accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). An achievement that highlights the school’s exceptional commitment to its students, faculty and community.
The gold standard in accreditation in public health education, CEPH protects the interests of students and the public by supporting the development of successful public health schools and programs. According to CEPH, the Stempel College School of Public Health achieved accreditation until July 1, 2027, in a report demonstrating full compliance across all accreditation criteria.
“We are very excited to report that the school of public health received its final review from the Council on Education for Public Health - and the report is glowing. An achievement that highlights our exceptional commitment to our students, faculty and community,” said Tomás R. Guilarte, dean of Stempel College.
The accreditation process — led by Drs. Mark Macgowan, Vukosava Pekovic, and Elliot Sklar — required collaboration and hard work by all members of our college and the FIU administration for this successful outcome. The process involved creating a detailed self-study document that was presented to CEPH as well as an on-site review of all aspects of the program — including curriculum, student services, faculty, community outreach, finances and governance.
“As we continue to grow, offering new courses and programs with an eye to the future needs of public health, we are ensuring that our faculty are preparing students for tomorrow’s workforce and the demands of their communities,” Guilarte said. “Our five departments give students the opportunity to hone-in on skills and research that prepare them for whatever lies ahead; while our online MPH with a generalist concentration offers students the interdisciplinary skills that are vital to driving community health.”
