Minority males face depression and anxiety from ethnic discrimination on social media

Researchers at the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work have found that exposure to social media discrimination is associated with higher symptoms of depression and anxiety, particularly among male Hispanic young adults. The study, which was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, found that upon exposure to social media posts such as photos, memes, or videos that include ethnic discrimination users felt higher levels of depression and anxiety, even after controlling for overall self-esteem.
