ASPPH taps Stempel College director to support with epidemiology training program in the Americas

Dr. Carlos Espinal, director of the Global Health Consortium at Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work, has been nominated by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to help develop innovative online courses in epidemiology for health professionals in the Americas. Dr. Espinal will serve on an advisory committee and will provide guidance and feedback as the project evolves.

“Modern epidemiology requires innovation to approach the health challenges we face today in the region,“ said Dr. Espinal. “This nomination is a testament to the relevant academic expertise that has been developed at Stempel College.”

Stempel College is ranked 44th among public universities, according to US News & World Report. Its Global Health Consortium serves as a collaborative platform focused on coordinating national and international partnership initiatives to provide health solutions to the world’s population.

Dr. Espinal and the Global Health Consortium have worked together with PAHO over the years to help build a healthier world for people across the globe. This year, the Global Health Consortium and PAHO, along with the Colombian Society of Pediatrics and the Baylor College of Medicine, will host the Global Health Conference of the Americas in December in Cartagena, Colombia. The event will tackle some of the world’s most significant health challenges and provide a forum for global health experts to discuss solutions and a path forward. Topics for the conference include immunization challenges in Latin America, antimicrobial resistance, arbovirus, digital health, pediatrics, and more.

Registration for the event will be released in the coming days.
