FIU to host virtual event tackling the latest on COVID-19, including vaccine availability, hesitancy and boosters

Public Health experts coming together for Part III of the COVID-19 Vaccines: A Global Experts’ Summit this Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 9:45 a.m. EDT

Florida International University will host its last virtual event as part of the COVID-19 Vaccines: A Global Experts’ Summit . The event will bring together researchers and public health experts to discuss the latest on COVID-19 in the US and the changing landscape of the pandemic in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Experts will explore vaccine availability, hesitancy, and boosters.

“Vaccines are the best mechanism to prevent people from experiencing complications from this deadly virus,” said Dr. Carlos Espinal, Director of the Global Health Consortium at the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work. “Our goal of this final event is to reinforce key messages around the value of vaccination programs and share accurate information on vaccine safety and vaccine efficacy.” Dr. Espinal adds that with the threat of new variants, reinforcing these key messages are our best bet in combatting vaccine misinformation and disinformation.

This virtual event is hosted by FIU’s Office of the President in collaboration with the Global Health Consortium at Stempel College , in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

The COVID-19 Vaccines: A Global Experts’ Summit kicked off at the beginning of the year with its first event which brought together leading experts from across the globe to discuss and strategize a path forward in the pandemic’s response. The second event took place in June, and thousands of people tuned in to hear from researchers and public health experts from Florida International University, the World Health Organization, Baylor College of Medicine, UNICEF, and many more.

Thursday’s event will be simultaneously translated from English to Spanish. Follow the conversation at #COVIDSummit21.
